Scottie Scheffler entered the final round of the Travelers Championship with a one‑shot advantage over Collin Morikawa, but play was suspended at TPC River Highlands due to lightning and heavy rain, leaving the world’s top‑ranked golfer just five holes from clinching the title.
Scheffler began the day one stroke behind overnight leader Viktor Hovland, who was seeking his eighth PGA Tour win and his first in over a year.
Hovland, however, seemed to falter under the pressure after a strong start, opening with a bogey on the first hole after his tee shot landed in the rough.
He steadied, parring the next four holes, then alternated three bogeys with three birdies, dropping to 19‑under before the horn signaled the suspension.
A group of contenders surged up the leaderboard, highlighted by Collin Morikawa’s career‑best 61, which gained him nine strokes and tied him with Scheffler at 20‑under for the clubhouse lead.
Scheffler, too, stumbled early on the front nine. Although he birdied the fourth hole, he struggled with his putting and missed the green on the seventh, failing to save par.
The four‑time major champion, aiming for his second PGA Tour title this season, responded with birdies on the 10th and 13th holes to reclaim a one‑shot lead over Morikawa as clouds gathered and players were escorted off the course.
US Open champion Wyndham Clark also posted a strong round, carding six birdies to reach 19‑under through 14 holes, while England’s Matt Fitzpatrick moved to within three strokes of Scheffler after seven birdies and two bogeys, leaving three holes to play.
