Ha‑Ran Ryu captured her maiden major with a two‑stroke victory at the Women’s PGA Championship.
Entering the final round with a one‑shot lead, Ryu saw her position at the top of the leaderboard shift as she bogeyed three of the first five holes.
She steadied her game with five birdies, posting a two‑under‑par round to finish at 13‑under and collect the $1.95 million (£1.48 million) winner’s check.
The tournament purse totalled $13 million (£9.8 million), setting a new record for women’s golf.
“It feels like a dream come true because I’ve chased a major title a few times before and fell short,” Ryu said.
“Today I finally did it, and I’m overjoyed.”
The victory marked a remarkable turnaround for a player who began the week tied for 70th place, ten strokes behind the leader after the opening round at Hazeltine National Golf Club in Chaska, Minnesota.
Canada’s Brooke Henderson and the Netherlands’ Dewi Weber each shared the lead after a weather‑delayed start to the round, but both finished at 10‑under, tying for third – Weber’s best ever major result.
Ryu’s fellow countryman Ina Yoon, who had led by five shots after the third day, slipped back but rallied to claim second place at 11‑under.
America’s Nelly Korda, seeking a historic third consecutive major win, started four shots behind the pace and could not gain momentum, finishing tied for eighth at six‑under.
