Robert Lewandowski is reportedly close to joining Major League Soccer side Chicago Fire.
The 37‑year‑old Polish forward left Barcelona at the end of the season when his contract expired and is expected to sign a two‑year contract with Chicago.
The Fire announced in December that they were in discussions with Lewandowski about a possible transfer.
He is on the club’s discovery list, meaning no other MLS team can sign him without compensating Chicago, and negotiations have been ongoing.
In addition to Chicago, AC Milan and clubs from the Saudi Pro League have shown interest in the Poland record‑scorer, who is set to become one of the league’s highest‑paid players.
His arrival would be a major boost for a city that hosts one of the largest Polish communities outside Poland.
Chicago, currently third in the MLS Eastern Conference after making their first playoff appearance last season, return to action after the World Cup break on Friday, 17 July, when they face Vancouver.
Lewandowski spent 12 seasons in the German Bundesliga with Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich, winning ten league titles and the 2020 Champions League.
He was the favourite for the 2020 Ballon d’Or before the award was cancelled due to the pandemic, finished runner‑up in 2021, and claimed the FIFA Best Men’s Player award in 2020 and 2021.
After joining Barcelona in 2022, he helped the club win three La Liga titles and the 2025 Copa del Rey, scoring 120 goals in 193 appearances, though injuries limited him to 17 league starts last season.
Since his departure, Barcelona have signed Newcastle winger Anthony Gordon on a five‑year, €80 million deal and are weighing options on England striker Harry Kane, whose contract with Bayern Munich expires at the end of the season.
