After a deceptive departure from the ring, NWA standout Trevor Murdoch stunned the audience on the latest episode of NWA Powerrr by unveiling a bold new character.
Murdoch initially appeared to be making a final farewell appearance following his retirement announcement last month. However, the mood shifted when Mike Knox arrived with a gift: a crown and cape. After donning the royal attire, Murdoch declared himself “King Trevor Murdoch I,” asserting that a king “never retires.” This unexpected pivot caught both the live crowd and the commentary team off guard. Murdoch later took to social media to mock those who believed his retirement was genuine, branding himself the “one true king.”
The twist follows the May 2 episode of NWA Powerrr, where Murdoch seemingly walked away from the sport following a loss to Pretty Boy Smooth. During an emotional post-match promo, the former WWE star cited his 27-year career and a desire to maintain the legacy of his trainer, the legendary Harley Race, as the reasons for stepping away.
“I’m not sure if I can do this anymore,” Murdoch stated during that speech. “I’ve seen guys come in here only for a payday, and they don’t give the fans what they deserve. I never wanted to be that guy. I don’t want to embarrass myself, my family, or Harley Race. So at this moment, I am announcing my retirement from pro wrestling.”
This is not the first time Murdoch has played with the concept of retirement; after a previous retirement in 2018, he returned to the NWA in 2019 and eventually became a two-time Worlds Heavyweight Champion. In his recent address, the former WWE Tag Team Champion expressed his gratitude to NWA President Billy Corgan for the opportunities that extended his career for an additional seven years.
