Chelsea secure £17m compensation following departure of manager Enzo Maresca to Manchester City.
Chelsea dismissed head coach Enzo Maresca earlier this year, although he remained under contract with the club.
Manchester City began negotiations over his release in early June and have now reached an agreement to pay approximately £17 million to acquire him from Chelsea.
Maresca had been eager to join Manchester City after Pep Guardiola personally informed him of his intention to leave Chelsea this summer.
With his wish fulfilled, Manchester City are expected to fund a significant squad overhaul to support the Italian manager.
Having missed out on the Premier League title in each of the past two seasons, Manchester City are determined to challenge for the championship again.
The club has already announced a high‑profile signing, bringing Elliot Anderson from Nottingham Forest, and further arrivals are anticipated.
