The first trailer for The Angry Birds Movie 3 suggests that for Red, the challenges of parenthood might just rival the threat of global catastrophe.
Paramount Pictures has slated the latest chapter in the animated franchise for a December 23 theatrical release. Jason Sudeikis, Josh Gad, Rachel Bloom, and Danny McBride return to voice their signature roles, continuing the series that began with 2016’s The Angry Birds Movie and its 2019 follow-up.
The threequel finds the temperamental cardinal Red (Sudeikis) attempting to save the world while simultaneously raising three hatchlings, aided by his loyal companions Chuck (Gad), Bomb (McBride), and Silver (Bloom). The film adapts the globally recognized video game IP from Rovio Entertainment, a Sega subsidiary.
“I’m a professional, full-time parent,” Sudeikis declares in the footage. “It’s my new job.”
The ensemble voice cast expands significantly with additions including Emma Myers, Walker Scobell, Marcello Hernández, Tim Robinson, Lily James, Keke Palmer, Anna Cathcart, Maitreyi Ramakrishnan, Nikki Glaser, MrBeast, Salish Matter, Psalm West, Sam Richardson, and James Austin Johnson.
John Rice directs from a screenplay by Thurop Van Orman. The production team comprises John Cohen, Dan Chuba, Carla Connor, and Namit Malhotra. Rovio and Sega produce alongside Prime Focus Studios, in partnership with Flywheel Media, One Cool Group, and Dentsu.
The franchise launched in May 2016 under Sony Pictures, introducing an island of flightless birds confronting an invasion of pigs. The first two films, including 2019’s The Angry Birds Movie 2, have collectively grossed over $500 million worldwide.
