LAHORE: A dangerous roof collapse at a construction site in Baghbanpura left an eight-year-old boy dead and five others injured, authorities reported on Thursday.
According to the Baghbanpura police, the incident occurred during the expansion of a 14-marla school building with a two-marla addition. The collapse sent debris crashing onto the road, fatally injuring the boy and harming four men and another child, including a construction worker.
Rizwan Khan, the Station House Officer, clarified that local teachers from the adjacent school were transported in a police van to avoid exacerbating public distress, though no arrests were made.
Rescue 1122 deployed seven vehicles and 25 responders to the site, providing first aid before transporting the injured to Services Hospital. Footage showed women from the school being evacuated as part of the emergency response.
The tragedy follows a similar roof collapse at a tuition center two days prior, which claimed 14 children’s lives in Lahore’s Kahna area. The victims, aged four to 12, were buried at a local mosque after a large funeral procession.
