In May, Jorja Smith teamed up again with Nigerian‑British producer P2J on the track “What’s Done Is Done,” and she has now unveiled details of her forthcoming album. Titled What Are The Odds, the record is slated for a summer release, and today she shares a first look with the new single “Alive,” which features Wizkid.
She told Billboard that collaborating with P2J and Wizkid was effortless. “We wrote and recorded the track together in London, aiming to capture the thrill of starting something new with a creative partner. I’ve long admired Wizkid’s artistry and his role in bringing Afrobeats to a global audience, so having him on this song feels both special and a genuine honor.”
The album is produced by P2J, who also helmed her 2023 release Falling Or Flying. Smith shared further thoughts with Billboard about the project.
This record came together organically, without a preset agenda—I simply followed what felt right in the moment. Collaborating with P2J, we explored a range of influences, from UK garage and grime to various house styles, including funky and Afro house, letting the sound evolve naturally.
While the tracks carry an uplifting energy, the lyrics often touch on more melancholy themes. They reflect my experiences with growth, love, loss, friendship, and the process of finding my way. I relied on my intuition throughout, and I hope that sincerity comes through in every song.
