Freddie Freeman belted a home run and Yoshinobu Yamamoto pitched seven strong innings as the Los Angeles Dodgers secured a 3-0 win over the San Diego Padres at Dodger Stadium on Saturday.
Andy Pages contributed an RBI single, helping the Dodgers improve to 10-2 since June 22 and extend their lead in the season series to 7-2 against the Padres. San Diego’s losing streak reached eight games, marking their longest skid since a 10-game slide in 2013.
Yamamoto improved to 9-5, matching his season high with 10 strikeouts while allowing three hits and two walks. Padres shortstop Fernando Tatis Jr. recorded two of San Diego’s four hits, but the spots in the order from Nos. 2-5 combined to go 1-for-15, with the bottom three hitting 0-for-9.
Padres right-hander Griffin Canning dropped to 1-6, allowing one run on two hits and two walks over four innings, following a scoreless opening inning from Wandy Peralta.
Tatis opened the game by singling on Yamamoto’s first pitch, but the Dodgers’ starter escaped a first-and-third jam with two outs. He then limited San Diego to just one additional hit while retiring 17 of the final 19 batters he faced.
Los Angeles broke through in the third inning when Dalton Rushing walked to lead off and scored on Pages’ one-out single to left field. The Dodgers extended their lead to 2-0 in the sixth on Freeman’s home run to right-center, his 15th of the season and fifth during his current 19-game on-base streak.
Yamamoto, Freeman, and Pages were all selected as National League All-Stars on Saturday. Brock Stewart and Alex Vesia combined for a scoreless eighth inning, while Will Klein recorded his second save in the ninth.
After a two-day gap, Padres closer Mason Miller entered in a non-save situation and led off the ninth by hitting Tommy Edman with a pitch before Freeman’s RBI single.
