Global Tensions Escalate as Israeli Leadership Addresses Lebanese Christian Communities
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has stated that several Christian villages in southern Lebanon have publicly requested annexation by Israel to enhance their protection against Hezbollah militants.
Lebanon joined the broader regional conflict in March 2024 after Hezbollah launched rocket attacks against Israel in response to the killing of Iran’s supreme leader earlier in U.S.-Israeli strikes.
In reaction, Israel conducted extensive air raids and initiated a ground operation in southern Lebanon, where Israeli forces now control territory near the border.
Netanyahu emphasized that these Christian communities, facing threats from Hezbollah and other militant groups, asked to be integrated into Israel for safety. He expressed solidarity with Christians worldwide.
Local officials rejected Netanyahu’s claims, maintaining their stance against the interpretation of such requests.
