Despite the loss of captain Aneurin Donald, who was caught behind attacking at Anderson, Derbyshire Lightning made a rapid start to their innings.
Donald struck two leg-side sixes off quick bowler Mitch Stanley before Andersson took successive boundaries off Hartley’s spin, pushing the score to 44-1 after four overs.
Anderson struck again for Lightning when Yousaf Bin Naeem was caught at deep backward square-leg, before the spin trio of Livingstone, Shadab Khan, and Hartley applied sustained pressure on the Falcons.
Shadab’s leg-spin dismissed Wayne Madsen lbw with a sweeping googly in the eighth over at 66-3, while Livingstone and Hartley each took two wickets in an over to reduce the Falcons to 121-7 after 16 overs. Anderson concluded with 2-21 from four overs, and Livingstone 2-24 from his four.
Lightning’s bowlers dismantled the Falcons’ innings, with Keaton Jennings and Michael Jones falling for 23 and 28 respectively. Jennings had earlier hit sixes over deep midwicket off Matt Montgomery, but his captain Akif Javed secured a crucial wicket.
Livingstone and Sufyan Bux added momentum, but Sufyan’s dual breakthroughs – removing McDermott and Moores – left the Falcons reeling at 80-4 after 13 overs.
In the final overs, Hurst and Blatherwick hit sixes, with Hurst’s 17 runs off Akif in the penultimate over bringing the Falcons to 29 needed off two overs. A stunning delivery from Potts bowled Hurst on the last ball, sealing a dramatic last-ball tie.
