ISLAMABAD – An anti‑terrorism court on Monday ordered that Saad Abbasi, the alleged killer of Pakistan Air Force (PAF) Group Captain Asim Tariq, be placed in custody for a 14‑day judicial remand for an identity parade.
The order was issued by Judge Abual Hasanat Mohammad Zulqarnain of the Anti‑Terrorism Court. Under tight security, police presented the suspect to the court. Prosecutor Raja Naveed and the investigating officer, who also appeared before the judge, requested the identity parade.
The investigating officer explained that the case had already been registered against Abbasi under the anti‑terrorism law at Margalla Police Station, and that an identity parade was necessary in accordance with legal procedure.
Accepting the request, the court remanded Abbasi to jail for 14 days to facilitate the identity parade and directed the calendared authorities to submit a progress report upon completion of the process.
Proceedings were adjourned until July 20, with the court ordering that the suspect be produced again on that date.
According to court filings, Abbasi allegedly shot the PAF officer during an attempt to rescue a woman from an attempted abduction in Islamabad on Sunday.
