The Sindh Counter‑Terrorism Department (CTD) announced on Tuesday that it had disrupted a significant terrorist scheme in Karachi after detaining two members of the banned Baloch Liberation Army (BLA).
In a statement, the CTD said that, amid a recent surge in terrorist activity nationwide—particularly in Karachi—it and federal intelligence agencies carried out an intelligence‑based operation on July 6, resulting in the arrest of two trained BLA militants.
The department added that bomb‑making material was seized from the suspects, who had intended to attack sensitive installations and law‑enforcement offices. The individuals were identified as Mujahid Baloch and Farid Baloch.
According to the CTD, the two had received training in reconnaissance and communications at a BLA camp and were residing in Karachi under the guidance of their commanders, Sajid Baloch and Bashir Zaib.
Investigators recovered four kilograms of explosive substance, a detonator, a PRMA card, and a ball ring from the pair. Cases have been registered against them, and further interrogation is ongoing, which may reveal additional accomplices.
The CTD and intelligence agencies have formed dedicated teams to act on any information obtained from the suspects.
The incident follows a terrorist attack on a Rangers facility in Karachi on June 27 that killed three security personnel.
Data from the Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies (PICSS) show that Sindh experienced four terrorist incidents in June, up from just one in May.
