A strong offensive explosion fueled the Chicago White Sox’s decisive 14-1 victory over the Athletics on Friday night, reversing their recent struggles. The team aims to maintain its momentum in a series that has become a rare source of success after a losing streak at Fenway Park.
Chicago’s offensive surge marked a sharp contrast to their previous three home games against Boston, where they managed only two runs combined. Tristan Peters anchored the attack, going 4-for-4 with four RBIs and achieving a rare cycle—the first such feat by a White Sox player since Jose Abreu in 2017.
“It’s great to finally give these fans something exciting after a tough week,” White Sox left fielder Sam Antonacci remarked, emphasizing the morale boost the performance provided.
The Athletics’ losing streak deepened to seven consecutive games, with Tyler Soderstrom’s solo home run being the lone run for Oakland. Manager Mark Kotsay addressed the team’s slump during a post-game press conference, stressing the need for resilience and a “next-man-up” approach.
Right-hander Erick Fedde, who allowed three runs in four innings during his last start against the Athletics, is slated to anchor Chicago’s rotation again. Fedde, seeking his third consecutive win, demonstrated improved control in his recent appearance against Cleveland, issuing just one walk and striking out four.
Despite Fedde’s recent struggles, Athletics rookie left-hander Gage Jump hopes to capitalize on Chicago’s difficulties against rookie pitchers. However, the White Sox have shown vulnerabilities against Boston’s young left-handed starters, who limited them to six hits in 13 scoreless innings during their recent series.
Kotsay acknowledged the need for pitching adjustments following Jump’s recent outing in Miami, where he allowed six runs in three innings. The manager emphasized focusing on refining strategies to counter strong lineups moving forward.
Munetaka Murakami, returning from a hamstring injury, contributed an RBI double in his first game back, going 1-for-5 with four strikeouts. His performance highlights the depth in Chicago’s lineup as they prepare for Saturday’s matchup.
