“We are all cheering for Erling Haaland,” said Marie, an American attending a Norwegian gathering in Miami, Florida.
“We have all grown to love him,” she told BBC Mundo. “He is both playful and dominant.”
“I am truly captivated by Mr. Haaland,” said Robert, a Miami resident, in an interview with BBC Mundo. “He operates like a machine; even the Terminator would step aside.”
Robert organised a Norwegian‑style “row” with ten of his pickleball friends in Miami Beach on Friday morning, inspired by clips of the Norwegian team on social media.
“For many Americans unfamiliar with soccer, his performance is simply remarkable.”
The Norwegian striker also appears to be a fan of the United States.
“I will definitely return here,” he added.
During a recent press conference, Haaland was questioned about his growing base of American supporters.
“I appreciate Americans; they are quite amusing,” he remarked. “I enjoy their humor and the way they express themselves.”
Haaland also interacts directly with his fans, much to their delight.
An Instagram user posted a video of a spring onion with the caption: “Am I losing it or does this green onion look like Haaland?”
The footballer’s comment (a gif of a dog in a car, raising its eyebrows as the car window rolls up) has nearly 1.5 million likes.
These spring‑onion analogies have gained traction in unexpected corners of the internet.
Florida congresswoman Anna Paulina Luna asked her followers on X whether they would support Norway or England in the quarter‑final match on Saturday.
She then posted the spring‑onion video, writing: “Just so everyone knows where I stand”, paired with a Norwegian flag emoji.
