Sourav Ganguly was inducted into the ICC Hall of Fame on July 11, 2026, in Edinburgh as part of the Class of 2026, alongside Kevin Pietersen and Anjum Chopra.
This inductee brings the total count of Hall of Famers to 125, making him the 12th Indian and the 10th male Indian player to receive cricket’s highest individual honour.
Known for his elegant left‑handed batting and mastery of the off‑side, Ganguly made his mark with centuries in his first two Test innings in 1996. He accumulated 7,212 runs in 113 Tests and 11,363 in 311 ODIs. As captain, he rebuilt the Indian team following the 2000 match‑fixing crisis, nurturing a new generation that reached the 2003 World Cup final, won the 2002 NatWest Trophy, and claimed joint Champions Trophy honours. His side also triumphed in the 2001 Border‑Gavaskar series and secured India’s first Test series win in Pakistan.
After his induction, Ganguly shared a heartfelt message on social media. The 54‑year‑old, who celebrated his birthday on July 8, expressed gratitude to ICC President Jay Shah for the honour.
“I am honoured to be inducted into the ICC Hall of Fame. To have my name included among cricket’s greatest players will remain one of my most cherished moments. Representing India and competing at the highest levels has been a privilege, and to now be recognised in this way is truly special,” he said.
“I would like to extend my sincere gratitude to Mr Jay Shah for this huge honour, which I consider the highest recognition a cricketer can receive. This game has given me a lot, and I hope to continue serving it in the years to come. I also thank my loved ones for their support over the years,” he added.
