The Seattle Seahawks have entered a new era following an agreement to be acquired by a group led by Vinod Khosla.
According to ESPN, the transaction, valued at a record-breaking $9.612 billion, was announced this Saturday. The acquisition remains subject to approval by the current owners during a special meeting scheduled for late August.
Under the terms of the agreement, which positions the Khosla family as the controlling owners, the group must divest their existing interest in the San Francisco 49ers.
“We are honored to be entrusted as the next stewards of the Seattle Seahawks,” Khosla stated. “We look forward to building on the winning legacy Paul Allen created and to earning the trust of the Seahawks organization and fans everywhere.”
Following the team’s victory over the New England Patriots in Super Bowl LX, the estate of the late Microsoft co-founder Paul G. Allen placed the franchise up for sale. In accordance with Allen’s final wishes, his sister, Jody Allen, intends to donate the sale proceeds to charity.
Allen had owned the Seahawks since purchasing the team from Ken Behring in 1996.
