BANGKOK — A large fire broke out at a pub in Bangkok early Monday morning, killing at least 27 people before firefighters brought the blaze under control, officials confirmed.
Video footage shared by first responders shows an intense blaze erupting at the Na Ladprao pub in the northern part of the city, with thick black smoke billowing from the front entrance as patrons attempted to escape.
Thailand Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul recounted to reporters at the scene that 27 people had died and that several injured individuals were being transported to hospitals. He noted that the cause of the fire was still under investigation.
Anutin reported that a musician who had been performing at the venue observed smoke emerging from a circuit breaker near the stage before power failed, followed by an explosion and rapid spread of smoke.
The prime minister added that many victims were found in the restrooms and at the rear of the pub.
It took firefighters roughly thirty minutes to bring the fire under control. Photographs of the aftermath show charred tables, chairs, and damaged interior fixtures.
Thailand has experienced similar tragedies in the past, including a 2022 incident in which 14 people were killed in a music pub fire on the country’s eastern coast.
A decade earlier, a 2009 New Year’s Eve celebration flare‑up at the Santika nightclub in Bangkok resulted in 66 deaths and over 200 injuries, allegedly sparked by an indoor fireworks display.
