The Media Foundation for West Africa (MFWA) is joining forces with Uganda‑based Unwanted Witness, Ghana’s Data Protection Commission, and the Hewlett Foundation to host the eighth Privacy Symposium Africa, themed “Money. Data. Control.”
Scheduled for 25‑26 November 2026, the symposium will explore the nexus of economic value, data governance, and digital power, fostering dialogue on how Africa can leverage innovation while protecting privacy, upholding fundamental rights, and building public trust.
Around 200 participants—policymakers, data protection authorities, regulators, tech firms, financial institutions, civil society groups, academics, journalists, and development partners from Africa and beyond—will gather to exchange ideas, share experiences, and craft practical responses to emerging data‑governance challenges.
As part of the event, MFWA will organize and facilitate the PSA Insight Lab, a masterclass for journalists, technology reporters, editors, and other digital‑media professionals focused on the data economy and digital systems.
