India’s preparations for the 2027 ODI World Cup have commenced with a three-match series against England, where former India wicketkeeper Parthiv Patel believes Virat Kohli’s performance could prove pivotal for the team’s overseas success.
Speaking on JioStar’s Game Plan, Patel highlighted Kohli’s experience and ability to dominate in foreign conditions as critical assets for the batting lineup as India builds toward the next 50-overs World Cup.
“Virat Kohli’s presence will undoubtedly strengthen this side,” Patel stated.
Parthiv Patel on Kohli’s Motivation
Patel acknowledged that Kohli has already achieved most milestones in international cricket but suggested that his quest for 100 international centuries could continue to drive his performance.
“What remains for Virat Kohli? He secured the 2011 World Cup, the Champions Trophy, and recently won the T20 World Cup. Under his captaincy, India rose to the top of the Test rankings and achieved series victories abroad,” Patel explained. “The question is his motivation. Aiming for 100 centuries could be a key target, which naturally translates into consistent run-scoring.”
He further emphasized that Kohli’s form in England would have implications beyond individual achievements. “If he performs well in overseas conditions, it will uplift the entire batting unit. His experience and consistency are essential as India gears up for the next major tournament.”
England Series as Crucial World Cup Preparation
The ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2027 will be hosted in South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Namibia, making the England tour a vital test of India’s overseas capabilities.
The return of veterans like Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah, and Kuldeep Yadav is anticipated to reinforce India’s ODI squad following their recent T20I challenges.
Patel reaffirmed that Kohli’s leadership and match-winning potential remain indispensable as India charts their path to global success.
