Brar violated Article 2.9 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which addresses “throwing a ball at or near a player in an inappropriate and/or dangerous manner during an international match.”
The incident occurred in the eighth over after England chose to bat. Ben Duckett hit the ball directly at Brar, who returned it toward the batter. Brar acknowledged the offense and accepted the match referee’s sanction, avoiding a formal hearing.
Brar began his bowling spell during the initial powerplay, conceding 26 runs in his first two overs. He later switched ends to dismiss both England openers, Duckett and Jacob Bethell, in one over, finishing with figures of 2 for 61 in nine overs. In the 48th over, he clutched his right calf and exited the field.
The charges were filed by on-field umpires Kumar Dharmasena and Mike Burns, third umpire Sam Nogajski, and fourth umpire Russell Warren. Level 1 breaches result in penalties ranging from an official reprimand to a maximum of 50% of a player’s match fee, along with one or two demerit points.
India leads the three-match ODI series 1-0. The second ODI is scheduled in Cardiff on Thursday.
