A massive wildfire in Drammen, southern Norway, has destroyed more than 100 homes, according to rescue officials. The blaze, which remains uncontrolled, has prompted the evacuation of hundreds of residents from the area located approximately 30 miles west of Oslo.
Local authorities have not reported any casualties or missing individuals. Firefighters are actively working to contain the flames, which have spread to a nearby forest amid challenging conditions.
Police confirmed the fire is still not under control, with its origin and exact cause under investigation. A Drammen Red Cross representative, Thomas Evjen, cited extreme heat and prolonged dry weather as key factors accelerating the fire’s spread. “It says something about the heat we’ve had lately. It’s been very dry. So once the fire started, it spread quickly. That’s what we’ve seen,” Evjen told Reuters.
