Hridoy Confident After Bangladesh Secures T20I Victory Amid Key Injuries

Versatile bowler Mustafizur Rahman was ruled out of the entire T20I series in Zimbabwe after suffering hamstring and knee injuries. Shoriful Islam also missed the tour entirely due to a hamstring problem, while side‑strain sidelined Nahid Rana for the final match after the second game.

Despite the loss of three frontline players, Bangladesh emerged victorious from the series. Captain Towhid Hridoy, who stepped into the leadership role following the injury of Litton Das, expressed satisfaction with the team’s performance.

“It was a great result, especially since this was my first time leading the side,” Hridoy said after the team clinched the decider by four wickets in Bulawayo on Sunday. “We faced extra challenges when Rana was injured mid‑series. With Shoriful also unavailable, our options were limited, but the squad still performed admirably.”

The squad was reduced to 13 players by the tour’s end. Hridoy noted that while many were affected by injuries, the team showed resilience. He praised the replacement, Abdul Gaffar Saqlain, who contributed a tidy one‑for‑31 in the final match.

Bangladesh’s last visit to Zimbabwe in 2022 ended with a 2‑1 defeat. On this tour, Zimbabwe took both the one‑off Test and the ODI series (2‑1).

“The conditions here are always challenging, but as professional athletes we had to adapt quickly,” Hridoy reflected. “We made some mistakes in previous series, but the T20 results were heartening, especially given the injury situation.”

Over the past year, including this series, Bangladesh has played 28 T20Is, winning 15 and losing 13. This comes on the back of missing the T20 World Cup earlier this year due to non‑cricketing reasons.

“The T20 unit has performed well both at home and abroad in recent series,” Hridoy added. “However, as a team we need to develop further. The World Cup is far away in August 2028, so we are focused on improving match by match and series by series.”
