Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar emphasized the high priority Pakistan places on its relationship with Canada during delegation-level talks with Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand in Islamabad on Monday. Anand’s arrival marked her first visit to Pakistan since assuming office.
Dar welcomed Anand at the Foreign Office earlier in the day. State-run PTV shared visuals on X showing the two ministers posing for photographs and shaking hands.
According to a Foreign Office statement issued Sunday, the bilateral discussions are set to cover the full spectrum of Pakistan-Canada relations. The agenda focuses on strengthening cooperation in trade and investment, education, and people-to-people exchanges, alongside an exchange of views on regional and global developments of mutual interest.
Anand is also scheduled to call on Pakistan’s leadership, with Global Affairs Canada confirming a meeting with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. The Foreign Office noted that both nations maintain cordial bilateral relations anchored in close people-to-people ties, enriched by the vibrant Pakistani diaspora in Canada. The visit underscores the shared commitment of both countries to expand mutual cooperation.
