Bears running back D’Andre Swift logged a career‑high 1,087 rushing yards and nine touchdowns last season, yet head coach Ben Johnson believes there’s still upside.
Swift spent his first three NFL seasons with the Lions, overlapping with Johnson’s tenure on Detroit’s coaching staff. Although the Lions moved on from Swift after selecting Jahmyr Gibbs in the draft, Johnson has consistently regarded him as an elite playmaker when he has the ball.
“He’s a dynamic player,” Johnson said, via the Bears’ website. “I’ve known that about him since he came into the league, firsthand up there in Detroit, and certainly last year I wasn’t surprised about the year he had. So, is he capable of more? Absolutely. He absolutely is. He’s a vital part of what we do here.”
As much as the Bears’ offense was celebrated last year for Johnson’s trick plays and Caleb Williams’ late-game heroics, Swift was one of the most effective running backs in the NFL in 2025. And Johnson expects more in 2026.
