Teenage Fanclub has announced their upcoming album, ‘Do Not Dare To Dream,’ and has released the atmospheric single ‘Day In The Sun.’
This will be the band’s 13th studio album and the first since their 2023 release, ‘Nothing Lasts Forever.’ The record is scheduled for release on October 9 through Merge and is available for pre‑order.
Coming after more than three decades since their 1989 inception, the new record sees the band expanding their signature melodic guitars, striking harmonies, and introspective songwriting into fresh territory.
Alongside the album announcement, the group has unveiled a new single, ‘Day In The Sun,’ a laid‑back track that explores themes of renewal and a fresh perspective. A video directed by Donald Milne accompanies the release.
For the album as a whole, Teenage Fanclub examines how hollow optimism can feel absurd and pushes back against empty words of encouragement.
‘Those “dare to dream” sentiments are ridiculous,’ singer Norman Blake remarked, ‘I don’t think the world works that way.’
‘We can remain cheerful and optimistic even when circumstances are challenging,’ added Raymond McGinley.
The record features longtime collaborators Euros Childs, Francis Macdonald and David McGowan, and was composed with the musicians recording together in the studio, without obsessively polishing each arrangement beforehand.
‘I think you just move from one project to the next and, before you realize it, 30 years have passed,’ Blake shared.
McGinley added: ‘It’s been a while since we began this, yet to us it feels like no time at all. In the studio, it feels as if people have been singing for millennia. Life is short, but music is eternal.’
