An Israeli national with Romanian citizenship, who previously served in the Israel Defense Forces, was charged after traveling to Iraq, Yemen, and Saudi Arabia using a foreign passport, actions prohibited under Israeli law without official authorization.
The indictment, cleared for publication by the Tel Aviv Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, was submitted by senior prosecutor Ariela Navon. A gag order imposed by the court during the November 2025 filing was lifted upon the prosecution’s request.
On the same day, 27-year-old Lior Matan Weinstein of Givatayim admitted to the allegations and was found guilty.
Prosecutors argued that publishing the case served public interest by illustrating the legal consequences of entering restricted nations without formal approval from authorities.
According to the indictment, Weinstein had previously planned Middle Eastern trips in August 2023, including visits to countries where Israeli citizens require special entry permits.
He entered Iraqi Kurdistan in August 2023 and departed two days later. A second visit to the region occurred in December 2023.
Between late January and early February 2024, he remained in Yemen and briefly traveled to Saudi Arabia.
The prosecution emphasized that Iraq, Yemen, and Saudi Arabia are classified as locations requiring prior authorization for entry, which Weinstein did not obtain.
These violations resulted in formal charges of unlawful entry into foreign jurisdictions under Israeli law.
