U2 and Martin Garrix Unveil Rousing Collaboration “Fireflies”

U2 and Martin Garrix unveiled their collaborative single “Fireflies,” which Martin Garrix debuted live during his headline performance at Tomorrowland last Friday, featuring a surprise appearance by The Edge.

The track represents the first occasion all four U2 members have joined Garrix on a recording, despite a lengthy history of collaboration. Recently, Garrix produced “Scars,” appearing on U2’s latest EP, Easter Lily. In 2019 he worked with Bono and The Edge on “We Are the People,” the official song for the UEFA European Football Championship. He also produced U2’s “Your Song Saved My Life,” featured on the Sing 2 soundtrack, and co‑wrote Garrix’s singles such as “Angels for Each Other,” “Catherina,” and “Weightless.”

“We have a long history with Martin, and every collaboration sparks adventure,” The Edge said. “Premiering ‘Fireflies’ at Tomorrowland, before one of the world’s most enthusiastic festival crowds, was exhilarating… perhaps I enjoyed it a little too much. It reminded me why I love performing outdoors—I prefer venues without ceilings.”

Garrix added, “‘Fireflies’ carries a distinct atmosphere and originated six summers ago. Its debut at Tomorrowland alongside The Edge felt electrifying and surreal. While I’ve previously collaborated with Bono and The Edge, working with the entire band revealed their unique chemistry and the reason for U2’s enduring legacy. They are remarkable friends and partners, and it has been an honor to reunite with them.”

U2 issued the EP Days Of Ash in February and followed it with Easter Lily on Good Friday. Their newest single, “Street of Dreams,” leads the upcoming studio album that will arrive later this year, timed to the band’s 50th anniversary and marking their first LP since 2023’s Songs of Surrender.

Earlier this summer, Garrix teamed with Madonna on “Bizarre” for her new album, Confessions II, and in May he collaborated with Ed Sheeran on “Repeat It.”
