SummerSlam 2026: Triple H Officially Confirms Trick Williams vs. Baron Corbin United States Championship Bout

WWE Chief Content Officer Triple H has officially confirmed the United States Championship bout taking place at SummerSlam. Trick Williams, the reigning US Champion, has been targeted by Baron Corbin, who made a shocking return by attacking Williams following the July 24 episode of SmackDown. The tension escalated after a four-way match that determined Sami Zayn’s next challenger, culminating in Corbin ambushing Williams and prompting the latter to call for a SummerSlam showdown. Triple H subsequently confirmed the matchup for the August 1-2 premium live event, stating:

Trick Williams captured the US Championship from Sami Zayn at WrestleMania 42, thanks to interference from Lil Yachty. Williams recently disclosed that the rapper himself advocated for more WWE appearances beyond a one-time affair. With Yachty participating in in-ring training sessions with Williams over the past few months, it appears the duo may form a tag team in the near future. Baron Corbin returned to WWE on the July 10 episode of SmackDown after his contract expired in November 2024. It remains to be seen how the company utilizes Corbin following SummerSlam and whether he will leave Minneapolis with a new title. Since partnering with Williams, Corbin appears to be continuing his recent trend of working with younger talents, a strategy he maintained prior to his previous departure from WWE. Corbin’s last televised WWE match was an August 30, 2024 episode of SmackDown, during which he and Apollo Crews defeated Los Garza.
