KYIV — Russian forces launched a ballistic missile attack on the Ukrainian capital early Sunday, igniting fires in at least three districts, according to Mayor Vitali Klitschko.
Ukraine’s air force confirmed the incoming missiles and issued an alert that lasted roughly 50 minutes before declaring the threat had passed. Klitschko said one blaze erupted on the seventh and eighth floors of a residential high-rise in a central neighborhood, while unofficial channels posted footage of fires burning elsewhere in the city.
No immediate casualties were reported. Reuters journalists on the ground heard repeated explosions throughout the assault.
The strike came a day after President Volodymyr Zelensky warned that new Russian attacks were likely within the next 48 hours.
