On July 26, BitMart publicly announced termination of operations, with a phased shutdown timeline: user registration and deposits halted immediately, trading ceasing August 26, and full closure targeting January 2027.
Cited causes include operational challenges, regulatory scrutiny, and strategic pivots—though Chow’s team provided scant specifics.
Ex-CEO Details Turbulent Leadership Transition
Chow alleged he lost autonomous authority when company executives ousted him as CEO July 24, initiating immediate offboarding prior to the announced shutdown.
“I had no involvement in decision-making processes behind this recall,” Chow stated, disputing management’s account of his role in the closure. He confirmed learning of the termination concurrently with public disclosures, later receiving communications about delayed retirement obligations.
BMX Token Plummets Post-Announcement
Following the shutdown notice, BitMart’s proprietary token BMX experienced a 63% value contraction—rebounding marginally to $0.066 by Sunday’s close amid market volatility.
