Alphabet Expands Data Center Investment Plans
Following Wednesday’s market close, Alphabet disclosed updated Q2 financial results, increasing its 2026 data center capital expenditure projections.
Initially forecasting $175-$185 billion in yearly capex, Alphabet raised this by $10 billion in its Q1 report. The updated range now falls between $195 billion and $205 billion. This adjustment reflects management’s flexibility to accelerate AI-related spending if computational resources become available more rapidly than anticipated.
The company’s cash flow from operations over the last 12 months amounted to $186 billion. Even if this entire amount were allocated to data centers, it would remain insufficient to cover this year’s expansion. Additional funding requirements will also stem from share buyback programs and dividend commitments.
This increased spending primarily benefits a select group of suppliers, particularly Broadcom and Nvidia. Nvidia provides the GPU infrastructure utilized across Google Cloud and other cloud services. Broadcom serves as the architectural partner for Alphabet’s proprietary Tensor Processing Units (TPUs), which are gaining traction in data center operations and are beginning to be commercialized.
Enhancements in Alphabet’s capex forecasts typically correlate with positive developments for these semiconductor providers.
