UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres toured Syria’s notorious Sednaya prison, marking the first visit by a serving UN chief to the country since 2009. The facility, long regarded as the Assad regime’s principal prison and notoriously called Syria’s ‘slaughterhouse,’ was where thousands of detainees were subjected to systematic torture and execution.
