Martin Scorsese stepped away from the director’s chair to appear in front of the camera for Lavazza’s new branded miniseries, Family Blend. The series celebrates “the magic of coffee” and is directed by—and co‑stars—his daughter, Francesca Scorsese. Notable actors Jason Biggs and Adrien Brody also appear across the five‑episode project.
Filmed in locations that shaped Martin Scorsese’s life and creative work—such as New York’s Little Italy neighborhood and his virtual production center at NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts—the series explores the bond between father and daughter, shared memories, and the passing of artistic torch, with coffee as a recurring motif.
Lavazza Group chief marketing officer Carlo Colpo described the project as illustrating how coffee serves as a universal bridge linking stories and creative visions. He noted that the initiative aligns with the brand’s “Pleasure Makes Us Human” platform, portraying coffee as a cross‑generational, cross‑lingual cultural gesture that fosters creativity and identity.
Production credits go to Romilda De Luca of RDL Worldwide/Publicis Group and Lisa Frechette of Sikelia Productions. Propagate Content produced the series, with Ben Silverman, Howard T. Owens and Drew Buckley as producers. The Maruri Group contributed to the creative vision, assisted by Joey Payne.
The debut episode, “But First … Coffee,” premiered earlier this week, with new installments released monthly through November on the brand’s and talent’s global social channels. Subsequent episodes include “Elizabeth Street” (August), a nostalgic walk through the neighborhood where Martin grew up; “Back to Tisch” (September), a return to their alma mater, NYU, set in the 1960s; “Where Everybody Knows Your Name” (October), featuring a tour of Di Palo’s Fine Foods in Little Italy while Francesca waits for her father; and the November finale, “But Last … Coffee,” set at an iconic New York café where Francesca (joined by Jason Biggs) challenges Martin to deviate from his strict black‑coffee routine and try new blends and modern preparations.
Francesca Scorsese previously directed the shorts Crimson Ties and Fish Out of Water and an episode of Martin Scorsese Presents: The Saints.
