George Russell says he will concentrate on the positive aspects as he reflects on the first half of the 2026 Formula 1 season, following his seventh‑place finish at the Hungarian Grand Prix.
As the F1 paddock moves into the required summer break, the Mercedes driver is maintaining an optimistic outlook. After eleven races, Russell secured seventh position at the Hungaroring despite an anti‑stall problem on the opening lap, and he acknowledges that misfortune has also characterized his campaign so far.
Although he turned pole position into a victory at the opening Australian Grand Prix and captured the Chinese sprint race, Russell encountered mechanical troubles during qualifying for the Shanghai event, which cost him a front‑row start and resulted in his teammate Kimi Antonelli taking pole.
Additional setbacks in the season’s first half have included an ill‑timed safety car in Japan that disrupted his strategy, an engine failure in Canada that forced his retirement while leading, a penalty‑laden race in Monaco, and a retirement at the Belgian Grand Prix.
Russell reiterated his commitment to push forward in an Instagram post.
“The first half of the season is complete. There have been highs and setbacks, but there remains ample opportunity for change before the final race, as anything can happen in this sport.”

Russell currently occupies third place in the drivers’ championship with 160 points, trailing Lewis Hamilton by nine points in second and leader Kimi Antonelli by 59 points.
