President Donald Trump has announced a comprehensive $22 billion renovation plan for Dulles International Airport, located just outside Washington, D.C. The initiative forms part of his broader vision to enhance the nation’s capital infrastructure.
The BBC’s Shaimaa Khalil reports from aboard one of the airport’s distinctive ‘people movers’—mobile lounges that have transported passengers between the terminal and aircraft since the airport’s opening in 1962. Under the proposed plans, these aging vehicles would be replaced by an expanded train system and new concourse structures.
While travelers acknowledge the need for modernization, many express a sense of nostalgia for the iconic ‘people movers’ that have become a beloved feature of the airport experience.
