Brazil international signed on a four-year contract with further one-year option for reported fee of about $101m.
Arsenal announced on Saturday that they have secured Bruno Guimaraes, the Newcastle United captain, on a four‑year deal, with an additional year optional.
The North London club have agreed to a deal, valued at approximately £75 million ($101 million) by British media, for the Brazil international, further strengthening Mikel Arteta’s squad with one of the Premier League’s most influential midfielders.
“From the outset, conversations with Arsenal sporting director Andrea Berta and manager Mikel Arteta convinced me that a new challenge awaited at Arsenal,” Guimaraes explained in a statement on the club’s website. “I am eager to embrace this exciting opportunity.”
He was a member of Brazil’s squad at this year’s World Cup and has remained a regular fixture in the national team in recent years.
The transfer follows a series of departures at Newcastle, including forwards Anthony Gordon and Sandro Tonali, as well as longtime manager Eddie Howe, who has been succeeded by German coach Matthias Jaissle.
Guimaraes’s arrival at the Emirates signals another clear statement of intent from Arsenal as they aim to defend their Premier League title and bolster their European ambitions.
He amassed 195 appearances for Newcastle across all competitions, netting 31 goals, and led the club to League Cup triumph in 2025, ending a long quest for domestic silverware.
“As we have all observed, Bruno can operate as a defensive midfielder and as a box‑to‑box player. He consistently contributes both goals and assists each season,” Berta remarked.
He adds another elite option to Arteta’s midfield, joining Declan Rice, Martin Zubimendi, Mikel Merino and captain Martin Ødegaard.
The acquisition also enhances Arsenal’s depth, allowing the club to better manage the workload of key figures such as Rice, who was instrumental in securing the club’s first league title in 22 years last season.
Arsenal will open the new campaign at home to newly promoted Coventry City on August 21.
