During the August 10 broadcast of The Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer and Bryan Alvarez discussed the recent injury sustained by Chelsea Green.
Over the weekend, Green confirmed via social media that she suffered a broken orbital bone during Friday’s episode of SmackDown. The injury occurred during a tag team match featuring Green and Tiffany Stratton against the Women’s Tag Team Champions, Fallon Henley and Lainey Reed of Fatal Influence. Reports indicate the fracture resulted from a rolling encore maneuver.
Meltzer noted that WWE is expected to release further updates regarding the injury within the next few days. It remains uncertain how the company will proceed, specifically whether Green will compete wearing a protective mask or if she will be required to vacate her championship.
Alvarez added that industry insiders have criticized the rolling encore, suggesting it is a problematic finish for such a maneuver.
Green recently captured the Interim WWE Women’s Championship in a ladder match at SummerSlam Night Two. She was officially introduced as the new champion during last Friday’s SmackDown, appearing with a “Permanent Champion” shirt.
