Cardano founder Charles Hoskinson has endorsed AlphaGrowth and Draper Dragon as capable replacements for the commercial and ecosystem‑development functions originally envisioned for EMURGO.
He shared this view during his most recent AMA session after a community member asked whether AlphaGrowth could take over EMURGO’s role and its associated investment funds.
In his response, Hoskinson said, “AlphaGrowth plus Draper Dragon functionally replaces what EMURGO was meant to be,” adding that both organisations are positioned to deliver strong outcomes.
His comments highlight growing confidence in AlphaGrowth and Draper as Cardano seeks to broaden commercial adoption, boost liquidity, attract institutional participants, and speed up ecosystem expansion.
EMURGO’s Evolving Position in the Cardano Ecosystem
EMURGO, one of Cardano’s three founding entities together with Input Output Global (IOG) and the Cardano Foundation, has historically concentrated on commercial uptake, venture investments, and supporting real‑world applications built on the network.
However, the firm has recently scaled back its involvement in the Cardano ecosystem after a $2.4 million exploit affecting its SecondFi wallet.
Following that incident, EMURGO withdrew from its Pentad role and announced adjustments to its governance participation. It also stepped down from the Intersect board and later disclosed plans to deregister its DRep role.
How AlphaGrowth and Draper Contribute to the Cardano Ecosystem
Meanwhile, AlphaGrowth has become a key driver of Cardano’s decentralized finance (DeFi) growth through its PRIME programme.
The initiative is backed by a 120 million ADA treasury allocation designed to deepen liquidity across Cardano’s DeFi landscape. By deploying capital strategically, PRIME aims to raise on‑chain liquidity, draw in users and investors, and help increase Cardano’s total value locked (TVL).
Draper, on the other hand, complements AlphaGrowth’s efforts through its strategic engagement in Cardano’s investment and institutional growth initiatives.
The collaboration involving Draper Dragon and Draper University—founded by venture capitalist Tim Draper—centres on the Orion Fund. Launched in April 2026 with an $80 million commitment, the fund targets institutional adoption, real‑world assets (RWAs), and interoperability between Bitcoin and Cardano.
While AlphaGrowth focuses on DeFi liquidity and ecosystem expansion, Draper brings venture‑capital expertise, institutional connections, and business‑development support.
In Hoskinson’s estimation, the combined work of AlphaGrowth and Draper can supply the ecosystem development, investment backing, and commercial growth that EMURGO was originally expected to provide for Cardano.
