Dodgers Lose Another Pitcher as Brent Honeywell Signs with Padres

The Los Angeles Dodgers have captured consecutive World Series championships and are building toward a potential third straight title. However, maintaining pitching depth continues to challenge the organization.

Justin Wrobleski, an All-Star starter, was placed on the injured list, leaving Shohei Ohtani unavailable to pitch. While tests are ongoing, the move provides Wrobleski time to recover.

“There was no visible injury during the game,” MLB Trade Rumors’ AJ Eustace noted. “The IL stint allows him to rest before rejoining the rotation.”

Despite strong organizational depth, injuries keep mounting for the Dodgers’ pitching staff. Meanwhile, a former Dodgers reliever is reviving his career with a division rival.

Brent Honeywell Joins Padres After MLB Hiatus

Brent Honeywell has signed a minor league deal with the San Diego Padres, per Yahoo! Sports’ Jordan Shusterman. The right-hander, who contributed notably during the Dodgers’ 2024 playoff run, returns to professional baseball with a key NL West opponent.

After pitching in the majors during the Dodgers’ 2024 postseason, Honeywell spent the entire 2025 season away from affiliated ball. Now 30, he seeks another opportunity with a Padres team competing for contention.

“The 2024 season marked the best of his injury-plagued career,” Eustace observed. “He posted a 2.63 ERA across 37.2 innings (34.3 with the Dodgers), providing reliable relief.” The Dodgers non-tendered him last winter, and he remained unsigned through 2025.

Honeywell’s brief Dodgers tenure left a lasting impact on teammates, including Daniel Hudson.

“He’s just special. One of one,” Hudson said to The Athletic’s Fabian Ardaya. Honeywell gained recognition as an unexpected starter during Game 6 of the Dodgers’ NLCS victory and later delivered a viral postgame interview.

“The Dodgers had enough arms to win Game 6, and the pennant. In the postgame chaos, Honeywell earned his share of credit,” Ardaya wrote. Now with the Padres, he aims to recreate those defining moments with another playoff contender.
