Yair Golan, leader of Israel’s Democrats party, condemned the recent Israeli military operation in Syria on Wednesday, characterizing it as a “provocative and dangerous step.”
Golan warned that the strike would exacerbate tensions with Israel’s international partners, specifically highlighting potential friction with the United States.
In a statement shared via X, Golan asserted: “Military force is once again being used for political considerations.”
He further remarked that Israel is currently “paying the price in security.”
Golan also noted that the operation “brings Israel closer to a confrontation with Turkey and deepens the rift with its allies, particularly the United States.”
Additionally, he leveled criticisms at Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, describing him as an “extremist and unreliable figure” who lacks the credibility required to establish a stable regional strategy.
Golan continued: “In this way, Netanyahu erodes trust in Israel, alienates us from partners and allies.”
The opposition leader emphasized that Israel requires “leadership that knows how to wield power to achieve security, not to generate yet another war for political survival.”
Concurrently, Syria issued two identical communications to the United Nations and the UN Security Council, stating that persistent Israeli military actions—including airstrikes, incursions, and abductions—are “hindering efforts to achieve stability and threatening the region with further tensions.”
In these letters, Syria reiterated its demand for an immediate cessation of Israeli attacks, called for Israel to adhere to the 1974 Disengagement of Forces Agreement, and demanded a full withdrawal from territories entered after December 8, 2024, as well as from the occupied Syrian Golan Heights.
