Cotton prices rose sharply on Friday, gaining 40 to 65 points compared to Thursday’s narrow fluctuations. Futures contracts saw mixed trading Thursday, fluctuating between 10-point declines and 44-point increases. Crude oil advanced $2.32 while the US dollar index rose 0.054 points.
Export sales for the 2026/27 season reached 209,360 metric bales (RB) during the week of August 13. Vietnam emerged as the largest buyer with 55,400 RB, followed by Pakistan at 51,900 RB. New crop sales totaled 64,856 RB, with 35,100 RB directed to El Salvador. Total shipments that week amounted to 222,046 RB, led by Vietnam’s 66,800 RB and Pakistan’s 30,200 RB.
The Cotlook A Index dropped 10 points to 95.90 cents per pound on Wednesday. ICE-certified cotton stocks remained stable at 70,643 bales as of August 19. The Adjusted World Price increased by 143 points to 69.62 cents per pound on Thursday.
October 26 cotton contracts closed at $87.02, up 2 points, and are now up 42 points. December 26 contracts closed at $88.34, down 1 point but currently up 61 points. March 27 contracts closed at $90.08, down 6 points but now up 63 points.
