[Ethan Miller Revitalizes The Odyssey Cult into a Psydelic Supergroup for Vol. 3]
Amid renewed interest in The Odyssey legacy, Ethan Miller has revitalised the project into a full‑scale psych supergroup for its third volume. Fronting the revival, Miller—known alongside bands such as Comets On Fire and Howlin Rain—is assembling a diverse roster drawn from deep‑cut indie scenes.
The first two Odyssey Cult records, Vol. 1 and Vol. 2, arrived individually in 2017.
Nearly a decade after those solo releases, the collective returns as a sprawling psychological ensemble, leveraging decades of live experimentation to shape a richer soundscape.
Today’s new Vol. 3 reunites Miller with longtime bandmate Ben Flashman on bass, and expands the lineup to feature Anthony Taibi handling keys, Steve Shelley providing rhythmic drive as the former Sonic Youth drummer now records with Miller. Saxophonist Zoh Amba returns to front the instrumentation, while Inna Showalter adds texture to the magician‑inspired element on Magic Fig. Remaining contributors include Brigid Dawson of Osees, Paula Frazer from Tarnation, and additional collaborators.
The result is music that stays true to core psychedelic traditions while exploring fresher pathways: raw yet grand, melancholy yet adventurous, evocative yet daringly novel. It may not completely restart the genre, but it delivers an undeniable thrill that rewards dedicated listeners. Fans of this versatile roster will appreciate the depth and energy each track offers.
Vol. 3 is out now on Silver Current.
