Panthers wide receiver Xavier Legette was absent from Friday night’s preseason matchup due to a foot and ankle injury, according to head coach Dave Canales.
The injury occurred during Wednesday’s practice when Legette’s ankle was rolled. Canales noted that the team is still determining the full extent of the recovery timeline.
“He got his ankle twisted up, he has some soreness in his foot, so we evaluated him,” Canales stated. “Right now we’re going to get him back going little by little. Hopefully we’ll see him at the end of this week, but I can’t tell you exactly when he’ll be back; we’ll just have to take it day by day and go with whatever is happening in his foot.”
Selected by the Panthers in the first round of the 2024 NFL draft, Legette has struggled to find consistency, recording 84 receptions for 860 yards and seven touchdowns across 31 games. In June, Legette expressed his determination to improve upon his previous performance, noting that he can’t have another year like he had last year. Sustaining health will be critical to his ability to meet those expectations.
