Cotton futures held mostly steady on Friday following early gains, with contracts trading down 7 points to 10 points higher, while October contracts closed 56 points ahead. Crude oil prices declined by 5 cents, and the US dollar index rose by $0.073.
Export Sales data from Thursday indicated that 2026/27 cotton export commitments reached 4.235 million RB, which is 31% above last year’s figures. This accounts for 37% of the USDA export projection, lagging the 43% average sales pace but remaining ahead of the 29% pace from the previous year.
The Cotlook A Index rose by 300 points on August 20, settling at 98.90 cents. ICE certified cotton stocks remained steady on Thursday at 70,643 bales. The Seam reported that 55 bales were sold in the August 20 auction at 81.6 cents per pound. The Adjusted World Price was adjusted upward by 143 points on Thursday to 69.62 cents per pound.
