Meghan Markle’s Reported Netflix ‘The Gentlemen’ Casting Bid Falls Through Amid UK Backlash

Meghan Markle’s reported negotiations to join Netflix’s crime comedy series The Gentlemen have reportedly fallen through, according to recent statements.

The Gentlemen, created by director Guy Ritchie, has not yet received an official renewal for a third season, though discussions about Markle’s potential involvement were described as being in early stages.

In a recent Substack post, Tina Brown—former editor-in-chief of The New Yorker and Vanity Fair—stated that plans to cast the Duchess of Sussex had been abandoned. “I learned this morning that the casting of Meghan Markle in season 3 of Guy Ritchie’s Netflix series The Gentlemen has been withdrawn,” Brown wrote. “The backlash in the UK was so intense, it became untenable to go forward. This does not bode well for Meghan’s acting comeback in the UK. More to come.”

Brown’s commentary comes on the heels of recent news that Prince Harry and Markle have announced plans to relocate their family from California back to the United Kingdom.

Earlier reports suggested Markle was being considered for a role in an upcoming UK-based production. Deadline’s Nellie Andreeva also noted that the former Suits star had been in talks to appear in The Gentlemen for its third season.

Markle has extensive experience in television and film, with nearly three decades of acting credits. She is best known for her role as Rachel Zane in the USA Network legal drama Suits, which ran for seven seasons from 2011 to 2018. Her other notable appearances include guest roles in series such as CSI: NY, 90210, Castle, and Fringe, as well as film work in titles like Horrible Bosses and Random Encounters.

Her first credited role came in 2002 with a guest appearance on the daytime drama General Hospital.
