Andy Burnham honored a bride’s heartfelt request by missing her wedding at the No 10 North government building after she expressed concern that his security presence would disrupt her special day.
Sarah Burwin appealed on TikTok in July, asking the prime minister not to work from the Manchester building housing the government’s northern headquarters and the city’s register office on her wedding date.
The actress explained she worried the extensive security detail surrounding Burnham would spoil wedding photographs taken outside the venue.
She welcomed him to the ceremony but requested he arrange for his security team to stand down temporarily, joking he could serve as DJ for the afterparty.
Burnham honored her request and sent a video message to the newlyweds.
