Chelsea Green noted that her on‑screen partnership with Matt Cardona felt inevitable.
During the August 14, 2026 episode of SmackDown, Matt Cardona intervened to protect Chelsea Green from an attack by Gunther, who had disrupted her conversation with General Manager Nick Aldis. This interference resulted in a match between Cardona and Gunther, which Gunther won.
In a recent ETalk interview, Green described the segment as “just really fun.”
Green said:
“Matt and I have been together for a decade. Throughout our careers we have repeatedly almost crossed paths, nearly worked together, and almost appeared on the same show. It was incredible to see him return to WWE, to share the screen with me on SmackDown, and to also have behind‑the‑scenes footage from Unreal included—that was a nice touch.”
“I believe that in today’s wrestling landscape, blending storylines with real‑life events is common. Given our public relationship and shared presence in WWE, it was inevitable that Matt and I would end up on screen together.”
“The fact that we are a couple and both WWE performers cannot be ignored. Fans have followed our journey—from building our home to adopting pets and growing our life together. Seeing that story reflected on SmackDown was special, especially when Cardona came to my defense; the whole experience was genuinely enjoyable.”
“I also enjoyed watching the action from ringside as a fan. While everyone else focused on his rescue, I got to appreciate the moment myself, which was a lot of fun.”
Green also appeared on the August 21 episode of SmackDown, where she defended Tiffany Stratton from a two‑on‑one assault by Lash Legend and Nia Jax after Legend had beaten Stratton in a singles match. Cardona competed that night as well, facing Kit Wilson in a Main Event taping before the show went live.
