Wesley Fofana Set to Miss Chelsea’s Premier League Opener at Fulham
The Blues begin their league campaign against their west London rivals at Craven Cottage, but they will have to do without Fofana’s services.
He was shown a red card in the final league fixture of the previous season versus Sunderland, triggering an automatic one‑match ban.
Fofana is expected to return for the midweek Carabao Cup tie, with Chelsea hosting Luton Town in the second round on Thursday.
There is considerable optimism around Stamford Bridge following the appointment of head coach Xabi Alonso, although it remains to be seen how quickly he can implement his philosophy.
The club’s hierarchy have backed the Spanish tactician with transfer funds to strengthen the squad, and further additions could arrive before the window closes.
Should Enzo Fernandez depart, Chelsea may look to sign a high‑profile midfielder, while the pursuit of a top‑class striker remains an option.
