Google is preparing to shift all Pixel device production out of China beginning in 2027.
Historically, Google has manufactured its Pixel smartphones, watches and earbuds in China, but the company has informed suppliers that production will relocate to Vietnam and India starting next year, according to a recent Nikkei Asia report.
The report notes that Google’s exit from China may be smoother than Apple’s, since Pixel devices are not sold directly in China and the brand represents a modest share of the local smartphone market.
Earlier in January, Nikkei Asia reported that Google intended to develop and produce the Pixel 11 solely in Vietnam, an effort that necessitated new testing and tooling equipment. The success of that initiative has now led Google to extend Vietnam‑based manufacturing to its broader Pixel lineup.

Google has also informed suppliers that it plans to raise Pixel phone shipments by 8% to 10% this year, building on the 12 million units shipped in the previous year.
This increase aligns with Google’s effort to drive broader adoption of its Gemini AI tools among consumers.
Should Google carry out the transition, it would mirror Samsung’s shift, which relocated most of its smartphone production to Vietnam and India after a year‑long process that ended in 2019.
The ongoing memory‑chip shortage, driven by AI‑related data‑center and cloud expansions, is impacting firms throughout the technology industry.
To mitigate the shortage, Google is said to be consolidating its orders for phone memory chips with those for its AI and cloud operations.

By consolidating orders, Google strengthens its bargaining power with major memory‑chip suppliers, which could yield more favorable terms across its divisions.
